Rutland Boat Seat Merlin Products - Product Review
Boat seats are an essential boat anglers tool as they are the modern day thwart board with the much needed back rest and padded seat. However this top of the range model is sadly let done by some major defects and flaws.
- It is seriously overpriced at £249.99 retail
- The silver metal frame is a major reflective eye strain inducer even when wearing sunglasses. A matt non-reflecive non-rusting alternative is very much needed
- The two supporting seat corners flex down first trapping and crushing your line, which in turn destroys floating lines if your line has the misfortune to end up in the tray. First it spoils your casting then it costs you a replacement floating line.
- The internal wood blocks used as part of the construction need to be waterproofed to make it more robust
- The wheels are not really needed
- The stitching holding together the back rest fabric is far too quick to come undone
The available carry all for this item is too small and short to allow it to be fully zipped up. This only needs to be made 2 inches longer to allow the zip to be fully used sealing up the bag.
Verdict: A beta attempt that is definitely not production class. If all these points were fixed it might justify the price. Alternatively you could use the Rutland Water Fly Fishers thwart boards at Rutland for a mere £0:50 pence a day donation until an much improved Rutland Boat Seat is made available at a more reasonable price.
