Hemimysis anomalaThere is a new non native invasive shrimp species to be found in Rutland Water. Two of Anglian Waters reservoirs now have their own new non native shrimp species. Rutland has the "Bloody Red Mysid Shrimp - Hemimysis anomala".

The path to taking part in this years Troutmasters Final 2011 at Grafham Water for me has been an interesting experience littered with catching a series of very large rainbow trout along the way.

Cormorant Watch

Submitted by Steve Crowder on Sun, 17/07/2011 - 12:12

Cormorant GroupCormorants (also known as "The Black Death") are a particularly repulsive top predator that has migrated inland here in the UK from the sea to take advantage of the easy pickings of both coarse fish and trout that can be found throughout the lands waterways, lakes and reservoirs.

Firesheep exposes weaknesses of open wireless networks

Submitted by GaryV on Thu, 28/10/2010 - 09:41

Firesheep is a Firefox extension that captures user names and passwords of any person utilizing the same open wireless network. To show people how vulnerable they're on public wi-fi, Firesheeps designer created the extension to exploit the validation cookies used by social networks and other websites. Firesheep can be thwarted, nevertheless, with Firefox extensions designed for additional amounts of encryption.

Invasion of the Killer Shrimp

Submitted by Steve Crowder on Mon, 13/09/2010 - 19:28

Killer ShrimpHere is the start of a new one. The first discovery of a non-native invasive aquatic species all the way from the Danube found in Grafham Water. Here is Anglian Waters Advice for water users: help prevent the spread of invasive wildlife that details the little monster. Having seen the offender first hand it is not small, and very prolific already. For those who fly fish at Grafham a shrimp pattern in size 10 or 8, based upon hare's ear should do the trick. A pale creamy hare's fur underside, topped with a light tan shellback with some partridge legs should do it.

Trout Personal Bests

Submitted by Steve Crowder on Wed, 01/09/2010 - 19:57

Personal Best Rainbow Trout From Pitsford I thought I would record the various personal best trout I have managed to catch over the years at Anglian Waters four trout fishing reservoirs. I have managed to catch many brownies and rainbows in the 3lb 0oz - 3lb 12oz class which are not really recorded here. I recently found out the the set of scales I use underweight by around 4 to 5 ounces...

Rutland 5lb 5oz Rainbow TroutA couple of days after receiving the Rutland Water Fly Fishers August Newsletter in the post and suitably armed with it's valuable information I decided to pay a visit to the top of the North Arm on Rutland despite the intermittent torrential rain that was falling that Saturday.
