The south coast's biggest ever celebration of sea fishing has been announced. The first ever Bexhill Sea Angling Festival (September 15 to September 23) aims to provide something for all the family, as well as seasoned anglers.

The Angling Trust has weighed into the debate on new plans for a privately funded concrete barrage across the environmentally sensitive Severn Estuary and challenged former Welsh Secretary Peter Hain's claims that fish and birdlife would not be damaged by the turbines and changes to habitat.

Angling Trust And RNLI To Tackle Sea Angling Safety

The Angling Trust and The Rivers Trusts have invited its freshwater angling club and organisation members to attend a one day conference about improving coarse fish stocks in rivers on Saturday 9th of June at Barston Lakes, Solihull in the West Midlands from 9.30am to 3pm.

DELCAC angler Geoff Vallance, a builder from Crawley, became the 8th angler to qualify for the Fish O Mania final at Cudmore.  Geoff drew peg 143 on Lake 4 where he fished shallow using 16metres of pole with 6ml pellets to land a haul of 172lbs 8ozs for a comfortable win over the other 129 competitors.

Stu Ballard, past finalist in 2010, and a Construction Works Manager from Aldridge, West Midlands last weekend became the 7th qualifier for the 2012 Fish O Mania final.

With the unsettled weather still affecting sport the outcome of the Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier at Peatling Lakes, Leicester on Wednesday 2nd May 2012 was always going to be uncertain. Many of the competitors fancied the larger lakes looking to catch big carp shallow, or in the margins. However, the sport was very patchy with anglers seeing fish out of reach in the centres of the lakes. In the end it was the smaller lakes which ultimately dominated proceedings.

Mark Downes and Steve Sanders, Angling Trust England Youth Managers are happy to announce the U18s and U23s World Championship teams who will be representing England in the World Championships in Radece, Slovenia on 28th and 29th July 2012.

National Fishing Month 2012 (NFM) takes place between 20th July and the 27th August, and with over 100 events already listed online at the new website www.nationalfishingmonth.com, organisers are hoping that this year will be bigger and better than ever.

What a contrast to last year when this match was fished earlier in the month in bright warm sunshine and a cloudless blue sky.  The Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier held on Saturday 28th April 2012  at Lakeview Fishery, Melton Mowbray was almost like fishing in mid-winter with freezing cold winds, which continued all day, not allowing the temperature to rise much above 5 degrees and, continuous light rain until half an hour before the finish.

The Angling Trust are delighted to announce the Veterans Coarse Angling team who will represent the Angling Trust and England in the FIPSed World Angling Championships this year in Penacova on the River Mondego, Portugal on the 11th and 12th August.

The weather forecast for the fourth Fish 'O' Mania qualifier at Woodlands View Fishery, Droitwich held on Wednesday 25th April 2012 had been grim at best. The only consolation being that it was pretty accurate for once. Heavy rain greeted the 130 competitors at the draw changing to tropical conditions around the middle of the match, with some hail and strong winds thrown in for good measure.

Following almost two weeks of typical April showery weather, cold easterly winds and the occasional frosty night the fishing was always going to be tough for many fishing the third Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier at Makins Fishery, Bramcote, Nuneaton on Saturday 21st April 2012. 

This year Sharkatag takes place 14-16th June from marks around the Solway and SW Scotland.
